It's possible they were talking about the pet that follows you around if you summon it. Those have no stats (ie: they don't help you out in combat like a Chocobo companion does) and are only there as an amusement.
Lord of Verminion is different and newer, so the store might not have had its language updated to show a difference between the LoV minion stats and 'out in the world wandering around following you' stats.
