It used to be VERY handy on large progress-required synths when you got to the completion phase, it was basically a requirement in 3* recipes. I've barely touched crafting in HW so I can't say if it's still as valuable but being able to do ~180 progress on a recipe that careful synth II only does 50 progress on, made it helpful to have.
